We have educated thousands of stakeholders on the HIPAA Rules ("Rules") through our monthly webinars and newsletters during the past years. Now we expand our offerings to cover the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and your GDPR Compliance as promulgated by the European Union (“EU”)—Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the Processing of Personal Data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC.
This GDPR Notice of Privacy Practices (“NOPP”) describes rights and obligations under the GDPR “Regulation”. It is not intended as a comprehensive summary of the Regulation, but rather its intent is to provide you with information regarding your Personal Data and the free exercise of your rights therein. Further, we will provide you information at various access points, using various media, as is reasonable and appropriate to do so.
GDPR Compliance establishes the protection of natural persons with regard to the Processing of Personal Data and the movement of same, between enterprises and between countries, both inside and outside of the EU. A Data Subject’s fundamental rights are protected with respect to the Processing of their Personal Data. The objective is to allow the free movement of Personal Data within the EU to facilitate commerce and other public policy objectives.
As previously mentioned we anticipated the need for many more compliance professionals across a wide array of disciplines. This remains true despite the incoming administration's desire to reduce regulations. Now, and effective May 2018 the EU has promulgated Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament that addresses regulations for use of Personal Data.
However, regulations are how we apply normative principles to the intractable problems that we confront (e.g. on Wall Street, the environment, in healthcare, the law, government, etc.). It is not a question of having more or fewer regulations but rather smarter and more just regulations.
